The West All-Stars jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Jersey Berg (Bismarck) hit a solo home run off the scoreboard in left field, Cali Steffan (Beulah) singled, scoring one run, and Ashlyn Schumacher (Century) singled, scoring two runs.
The West never looked back on their way to earning a series win in the 2024 SCHEELS Softball All-Star Series.
Berg, who was named the series MVP, hit another solo home run in the top of the sixth for the West All-Stars.
Schumacher earned her second win in as many days for the West All-Stars. She gave up six hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking three. Danica Rath (Kindred-Richland) pitched four innings in relief for the East All-Stars. She allowed seven hits and four runs (three earned) while, striking out none and walking two. Grace Wehri (West Fargo) took the loss for the East All-Stars. The starting pitcher went three innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out one and walking two.
The East All-Stars piled up nine hits in the game. Danica Hanson (May-Port-CG) and Ella Weippert (Grand Forks Red River) were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for NDSAS East All-Stars while hitting back-to-back. Weippert went 2-for-3 at the plate as the cleanup hitter led the team with one run batted in. Avery Amerman (Kindred-Richland) stole two bases.
The West All-Stars accumulated 11 hits in the game. Schumacher led the West with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Berg hit two home runs in the game. The shortstop went 2-3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Ginger Savelkoul (Renville County) led the West All-Stars with three hits in three at bats. Berg and Steffan each collected multiple hits for the West. Savelkoul stole two bases. The West All-Stars turned one double play in the game., making it three total for the series.
The win gave the West a 2024 series victory after the two teams split a doubleheader in Bismarck on Monday. The West All-Stars now hold an all-time series lead of 13-6.

Bismarck High School shortstop Jersey Berg took home the 2024 SCHEELS Softball Series MVP award as voted on by the media, coaches and North Dakota Softball All Stars Board Members.
Berg launched two solo home runs on Tuesday in Casselton to seal the deal. She contributed to three double plays for the West, including one to end game three. She also set a new record with eight defensive assists in the series.
Berg joins previous winners Madison Zander from Bismarck Century (2021), Taya Hopfauf from Dickinson (2022) and Ellie Braaten from Renville County (2023) as MVP winners, all hailing from the West.
The all-star trophy is presented by Crown Trophy in Fargo.
