East & West Split Doubleheader To Open Scheels Softball All-Star Series

The East took game one 8-2 and the West bounced back to win game two 6-3.

East All-Stars 8, West All-Stars 2

The East All-Stars won big over the West All-Stars 8-2 on Monday. The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for the East with their most recent win coming in 2019. 

The West All-Stars opened the scoring in the bottom of the third thanks to two singles. They first got on the board when Jenna Decker (Dickinson) singled, scoring one run.

The East All-Stars tied the game up in the top of the fourth thanks to two singles. They tied the game at two on a single by Raina Satrom (May-Port-CG).

In the top of the fifth, the East All-Stars broke up the tie when Rylee Satrom (May-Port-CG) singled, scoring two runs. Then a triple by Avery Amerman (Kindred-Richland) followed to extend the lead to 5-2.

Grace Wehri (West Fargo) earned the win for East All-Stars. The reliever gave up three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Rylee Satrom began the game for East All-Stars. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking three. Ginger Savelkoul (Renville County) stepped in the circle first for the West All-Stars. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and five runs (four earned) over six and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three.

The East All-Stars amassed 10 hits in the game. Wehri, Makenna Alexander (Sheyenne) and Ella Weippert (Red River) each collected two hits for NDSAS East All-Stars. Weippert went 2-for-3 at the plate as they led the team with three runs batted in. The East All-Stars had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game.

Decker and Jersey Berg (Bismarck) were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the West All-Stars. Decker and Cali Steffan (Beulah) each collected two hits for the West All-Stars. Decker stole three bases. The West All-Stars had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. They also ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game.

West All-Stars 6, East All-Stars 3

The West All-Stars bounced back with a 6-3 win over the East All-Stars in game two in Bismarck on Monday.

The West All-Stars opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. They first got on the board when Ellington Anderson (Minot) singled, scoring one run.

Ashlyn Schumacher (Century) earned the win for the West All-Stars. The starting pitcher surrendered eight hits and three runs over six innings, striking out one and walking none. Danica Rath (Kindred-Richland) took the loss for the East All-Stars, despite pitching well. The starting pitcher went four innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, striking out none and walking three. Ginger Savelkoul (Renville County) earned the save by pitching out of trouble in the seventh.

The East All-Stars amassed eight hits in the game. Sydney Schwabe (Thopmson), Makenna Alexander (Sheyenne), and Rath each collected two hits for the East All-Stars. Braya Mauch (Kindred-Richland), Rylee Satrom (May-Port-CG), and Rath each drove in one run for the East.

The West accumulated nine hits in the game. Jenna Decker (Dickinson) led NDSAS West All-Stars with three hits in three at bats from the leadoff position. Decker stole three bases, setting a new all-star record with six total. The West All-Stars turned two double plays in the game thanks to dazzling defense from shortstop Jersey Berg (Bismarck). The West All-Stars were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error after committing a pair in game one. Berg made the most plays on defense, contributing to nine outs.

Tuesday in Casselton

The SCHEELS Softball All-Star Series returns to Kost Field in Casselton on Tuesday for a skills competition at 4 p.m. and the rubber game set for 5:30 p.m.
