North Dakota Softball All Stars President Tim How unveils his first statewide power rankings of the season.

These power rankings are a reflection of what has happened so far this season with a touch of expectations added in. These are meant to be taken as a fun talking point for softball across the state.

Tim's statewide power rankings will be released each Thursday, in advance of the weekly coaches polls.  Records are based on what is reflected on the state website, WDA website and EDC website.

1. Minot (A-WDA), 12-3

Minot has the most impressive resume of any team in the state right now, with a slight advantage over Dickinson, despite the fact the Dickinson has won 2 of 3 against Minot. Minot easily swept a ranked Williston team, split with Grand Forks Red River, and thumped Class A's top team in Beulah. It has been a tremendous start to the season for the Majettes.

Minot ranked 2 in last week's Class A Coaches Poll.

2. Dickinson (A-WDA), 11-2

Dickinson and Minot are very close for the top spot. The Midgets have three wins over a ranked Williston team, but they also dropped a game to them. In a trio of games against Minot, The Midgets won 6-3 and 1-0, and lost 11-3. Outside of the mentioned games, Dickinson has been rarely tested so far this season. Minot has a couple more wins of value in the early portion of the season.

Dickinson ranked 2 in last week's Class A Coaches Poll.

3. West Fargo Sheyenne (A-EDC), 9-1

West Fargo Sheyenne and Grand Forks Red River appear to be the two at the top in the EDC, with a slight edge to Sheyenne right now. The Mustangs opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of ranked Jamestown and they also swept ranked West Fargo in a cross-town doubleheader. The lone blemish on the schedule thus far is a 10-4 loss at Minot.

Sheyenne ranked 5 in last week's Class A Coaches Poll.

4. Grand Forks Red River (A-EDC), 6-1-1

Grand Forks Red River may have the most impressive win of anyone this year, beating Minot in Minot early in the season. Aside from that, the biggest test for Red River came against Thompson. The RoughRiders walked away with an 8-2 win.

Red River ranked 3 in last week's Class A Coaches Poll.

5. Beulah (B-Region 4), 5-1

Defending state champion Beulah is the first Class B entrant to the power rankings. They have wins over ranked Kindred-Richland and Velva-Drake/Anamoose early in the season, as well as an impressive 19-1 drubbing of Bismarck Century. The long blemish came in a 20-1 defeat to Minot. Big games ahead for Beulah with the likes of May-Port-CG and Dickinson still ahead in April.

Beulah ranked 1 in last week's Class B Coaches Poll.

6. Jamestown (A-WDA), 10-3-1

Jamestown have been hot after dropping the  two games to West Fargo Sheyenne on April 6. Sans a one run win over Bismarck Century, the wins have all been by 4+ runs. The Blue Jays picked up a double header sweep of Thompson and a single game win over Central Cass. Both teams are expected to compete at the state level in Class B. Unfortunately, the Jays dropped a game to Mandan and left the second game in a 6-6 tie when suspended.

Jamestown ranked 4 in last week's Class A Coaches Poll.

7. Renville County (B-Region 3), 6-0

Renville County might have the best resume in Class B, but that Beulah pedigree keeps the Mavericks as the second Class B team on in this week's power rankings. Renville has wins over state ranked Velva-Drake/Anamoose (3-2), Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark (5-3) and Bottineau (8-6). They have shown they can win close games and have another chance to add to the resume this weekend vs. May-Port-CG.

Renville ranked 6 in last week's Class B Coaches Poll.

8. May-Port-CG (B-Region 2), 3-0

There is a reasonable contingent that believes May-Port-CG is the best team in Class B. They will finally have a chance to start proving that this weekend taking on Renville County, Beulah and Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark. All three of those foes were ranked in the top 6 in last week's Class B coaches poll.

May-Port-CG ranked 5 in last week's Class B Coaches Poll.

9. West Fargo (A-EDC), 6-2

The West Fargo Packers are unscathed outside of a sweep at the hands of cross-town rival West Fargo Sheyenne. However, the Packers haven't been tested by some of the state's best yet. They still have Grand Forks Red River yet in April. They also have a rematch doubleheader against Sheyenne in May, as well as doubleheaders against Bismarck Century, Bismarck Legacy and a single game against Central Cass.

West Fargo ranked 6 in last week's Class B Coaches Poll.

10. Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark (B-Region 3), 9-1

Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark shot out of the gates with seven straight wins to start the season with the most impressive being a 16-5 win over Kindred-Richland. The lone Laker loss was a 5-3 decision to Renville County. They have a chance to put that loss behind them with an upcoming schedule that includes Hillsboro-Central Valley, May-Port-CG and Bottineau yet in April following by games with Velva-Drake/Anamoose, May-Port-CG and Beulah in May.

Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark ranked 2 in last week's Class B Coaches Poll.
