Day two of the Midseason Madness provided more great softball

It was an ideal weather day at the North Softball Complex in Fargo where 17 teams came together to play 16 games on Saturday. An estimated 1,000 fans were on hand for the games on Saturday, brining the two day Midseason Madness estimated crowd total to 1,750.

Dickinson 18, Fargo Davies 3

Dickinson recovered from their first loss of the year in grand fashion with an 18-3 win over Fargo Davies. Jenna Decker put the game out of reach with a grand slam, which was one of five long balls for the Midgets in the game. Taya Hopfauf, Paige Balliet, Reese Hauck and Ava Jahner each hit one home run in the win. 

Jenna Leingang led Davies with 2 hits and 2 RBI. She also picked up 4 strikeouts in 3.1 innings in the circle.

Central Cass 12, Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark 1

The Central Cass Squirrels brought it again the night after an emotional victory of Class A's top team Dickinson. Central Cass continued their quest for a perfect season by scoring three runs in the first inning and rolling to a victory from there.

Harvey/Wells County 10, Pembina County North 0

Harvey/Wells County continued their strong weekend with a convincing win over Pembina County North. This turned out to be the only shutout of the weekend.

Wilton-Wing 11, May-Port-CG 6

The Miners scored 7 runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to an 11-6 win over the Patriots. Taryn Schurhamer put on a show in the circle for Wilton-Wing, striking out 18 in a 7 inning complete game victory. Fischer led the offensive attack with 3 hits.

Larson launched a home run for May-Port-CG and led the way with 3 RBI.

Thompson 18, Heart River 2

The Tommies came down to the Midseason Madness Saturday after a 15-1 win vs. Hillsboro-Central Valley on Friday night. Thompson kept the hot bats going in an impressive victory over Heart River.

Shanley 14, Williston 13

This game was an absolute back and forth barn burner. Senior Ingrid Otterson had four hits, including a home run, and four driven in. Fellow senior Crysta Schanzenbach had a pair of hits and Avery Aakre finished a home run shy of the cycle. 

Kierra Slagle had four hits for Williston, while Sierra Mann and Jaydyn Nass added 3 hits a piece.

Red River 13, Williston 2

Red River bounced back from a Friday loss with a convincing win over Williston.

Dickinson 14, Shanley 1

Dickinson capped off a 3-1 weekend with a 5-inning victory over Shanley. 

Heart River 4, Northern Cass 3

Young 8th grader Aspen Jarrett lined an RBI single to right center in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Heart River a 4-3 come from behind win over Northern Cass. Jarrett also had a double in the game, as did Meg Silbernagel, Jersey Filkowski and Quiahna Otero. Silbernagel struck out 16 in a complete game victory in the circle.

Kassie Pachak blasted a 2-run homer for Northern Cass, while Kayce Fix and Addison Rust added a hit each.

Wilton-Wing 24, Pembina County North 10

Wilton-Wing scored 6 runs in the first and 9 in the second on the way to a convincing 24-10 victory. Kiara Johnson picked up 3 hits for the Miners in the win. Taryn Schurhamer had a double, triple and 3 RBI in the win. Kalyssa Schock picked up the win in the circle with 8 strikeouts in 5 innings.

Lily Crosby led the way for Pembina County North with 2 hits and 2 RBI. She also pitched two innings in the circle. 

Westhope-Newburg-Bottineau 22, Dakota Prairie 4

A massive 11 run second inning propelled WNB to their second win of the weekend. Kylie Simpson and Drew Marsden each had 5 hits to lead the offensive attack. In total, six Sioux players had at least 2 hits in the game. Camryn Tweed, an 8th grader, got the win in the circle posting 4 strikeouts and allowing no earned runs.

Paytan Lippert had two hits to lead the Dakota Prairie offense. She also pitched two innings in the circle. 

 

Grand Forks Red River 7, Kindred-Richland 5

Red River scored 3 in the first and 1 in the second to jump out to a 4-0 lead on their way to an impressive 7-5 win over a strong Kindred-Richland team. The first five players in the Red River batting order all had 2 hits a piece. M. Stroh lead the production category with 3 RBI.

Abby McDonald blasted a home run and drove in a pair at the plate. In the circle, she struck out 8 in 6 innings of work.

Thompson 8, Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark 1

Faith Stumpf had a monster game at the dish for the undefeated #4 Thompson Tommies. She blasted a solo home run in the middle of the game and a long 3 run homer in the seventh to push the Tommies past #2 Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark. Thompson only managed 4 hits in the game, but they timed them up well. Grace Stumpf picked up the win in the circle allowing one run on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts.

Kaelyn Bachmeier and Brooklyn Benno each had a double for DLBLC with Benno driving in the only run of the game. Benno also picked up 7 strikeouts in the circle.

Harvey/Wells County 18, Dakota Prairie 5

Harvey/Wells County capped off a perfect weekend with an 18-5 win over Dakota Prairie. The Hornets went 3-0 and outscored their opponents 33-9.

May-Port-CG 15, Westhope-Newburg-Bottineau 6

May-Port-CG knocked out 13 hits to salvage their final game at the Midseason Madness. Larson led the attack with 3 of those hits and a pair of MPCG pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts.

Braaten had 3 hits and 3 RBI for the Sioux and Troska struck out 3 in the circle. MPCG finished the weekend 1-2, while WNB went 2-1.

Fargo Davies 8, Northern Cass 7

Fargo Davies picked up their first win of the weekend in the last game to end on the weekend. Davies finished 1-2 on the weekend. Northern Cass went 0-3, but lost to Wilton-Wing, Heart River and Fargo Davies by 1 run each.
