Seven of the eight teams to make it to the Class A state tournament finished the year in the top 10 in the coaches poll: Bismarck (1), West Fargo (2), Century (3), Dickinson (4), Sheyenne (5), Valley City (6) and Minot (7). Fargo North was the lone unranked team to reach state for Class A.

Class B played to the same tune with seven of the eight state tournament teams finishing the season in the top 10 coaches poll: Central Cass (1), Heart River (2), Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis & Clark (3), Velva/Drake-Anamoose (4), Thompson (5), Bishop Ryan (7) and Hillsboro-Central Valley (8). Kindred-Richland was the lone unranked team to advance to the Class B state tournament.
