Our Mission

The North Dakota Softball All Stars is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose objective is to help grow the game of softball in North Dakota through education, opportunity and showcase.

The main event will be to provide an all-star game opportunity for graduating high school softball players who play for one of the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s member programs. The goal is to continue the growth of high school softball participation, quality and skills in North Dakota through a showcase opportunity for our student athletes.

We are not affiliated with the NDHSAA or the NDHSCA.

History

Reagan Jastram of Sheyenne delivers a pitch in the first ever all-star game.

In February of 2017, North Dakota Softball All Stars formed a partnership with SCHEELS to host the first ever high school softball all-star series in North Dakota.

The first SCHEELS Softball All-Star Series took place in June of 2017 with the East winning the inaugural game, 9-6, in Mandan. Lexi Carpenter (Northern Cass) picked up the first hit in series history. The East picked up a 15-9 comeback win in game two in Fargo.

In the second annual series, the East topped the West 2-1 in 11 innings in Fargo in the opener. The East rallied from an early hole to win game two, 10-6, in Mandan

In the third annual series, a third game was added to the event. The West picked up a pair of wins day one at Mickelson Park in Fargo by scores of 7-5 and 10-8, then the East went on the road and salvaged an 11-6 win in Bismarck. That game was played at Bismarck Legacy for the first time.

COVID prevented actual games being placed in 2020, but for a fourth straight year all-stars were selected and honored.

Year 5 of the series was played in 2021. The West swept a home doubleheader at Bismarck Legacy by scores of 6-2 and 3-2. Day two was at a Class B site for the first time - Kost Field in Casselton. The West brought the lumber and completed the three-game sweep with a 20-8 victory. Madison Zander of Bismarck Century was named the recipient of the first tournament MVP in series history.

The West extended its winning streak to six with another three-game sweep in year 6. The West All-Stars picked up 12-8 & 11-4 wins at Bismarck Legacy before winning 12-0 and posting the first shutout in all-star series history in Casselton. Dickinson's Taya Hopfauf was named MVP.

The 7th annual SCHEELS Softball All-Star Series was be played at West Fargo Sheyenne for the first time, where the West picked up a road sweep with wins of 5-2 and 10-8. The series returned to Bismarck Legacy where the West won their ninth straight game, 11-10 in 8 innings. Renville County's Ellie Braaten was named tournament MVP.

The East put an end to their losing streak by picking up an 8-2 win in game one of year eight in a game played at Bismarck Legacy. The West bounced back in game two of the doubleheader with a 6-3 win. Day two shifted to Kost Field in Casselton, where the West took the rubber game 8-4. Bismarck High's Jersey Berg took home the MVP honors in 2024.

The 9th annual SCHEELS Softball All-Star Series is set to head north for the first time. Day one will be June 2 at Albrecht Field at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, while day two of the event will be held June 3 at the Scheels Complex in Minot.

Player Selection

Mariah Wick (Jamestown) bats in the first ever all-star game.

Coaches from across the state of North Dakota nominate their top high school seniors for the annual SCHEELS Softball All-Star Series. During the 2017 and 2018 seasons, a coaches panel selected from the nominees to form two teams. The teams were split between East and West and both teams included players from both Class A and Class B.

For the 2019 season, one tweak was be made to the selection process. All coaches throughout the state of North Dakota will be able to vote from the pool of nominees to help select the teams.

Rosters typically include 12-15 players per team.

Coaches are selected based on region tournament outcome from the season before. The head coach of the team that wins each of the four region tournaments will represent their region on the all-star coaching staff unless they decline or were an all-star coach the previous year. In those cases, the coach of the runner up team in the region tournament would receive the honors.
